A Chilled Beer is Your Answer to Menopause Symptoms. Here’s why…
Menopause may not turn out to be problematic for some women, but others can have nightmares. The cessation of menstruation – which happens when a woman enters her 40s and 50s – can come with discomforts like hot flashes and night sweat. Menopause impacts the physiology of women, and some are known to experience symptoms for as many as fifteen years!
The Menopause Epidemiology Study conducted had 4,402 women participating. It found that menopause symptoms are the reason women rush to pharmacies to seek treatment from doctors. While some herbs are known to alleviate the symptoms of menopause, something else in the market has turned out to be equally effective- a chilled bottle of beer!
We are not kidding- there is enough research to back it up with evidence.
Beer and Treatment of Menopause
Beer can relieve the symptoms of menopause thanks to the presence of phytoestrogens. There are compounds similar to estrogens found in plants like soy, and used for the alternative treatment of menopause for a long time.
Phytoestrogens enter the body and bind to estrogen receptors creating a mild estrogenic effect on your body. The effect can relieve the symptoms and provide comfort in menopause. Clinically, estrogen hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and other medications are used to alleviate the symptoms.
Phytoestrogens are not as potent as estrogens. They are found in plants but can help women in menopause who encounters a decline in estrogen levels. The phytoestrogens are found in hops and malts, and are made into beer.
The phytoestrogens present in hops are known as 8-prenylnaringenin (8PN). It is more potent than other estrogens reviewed by scientists and present in moderate levels in beer.
Evidence Backed by Research
Women, for instance, can encounter vasomotor symptoms that leads to hot flashes and increase in body temperature. In turn, it can have a significant impact on the quality of life and leads to increased healthcare costs. Studies like this one show that consumption of a moderate amount of beer causes a reduction in menopause discomfort and symptoms.
The same study found that consumption of beer was able to give relief from vasomotor menopausal symptoms.
Women also experience a reduction in sex hormones during menopause, which can affect libido. Low doses of beer can be effective even in this scenario and lead to an increase in libido of a menopausal woman.
Fermented beverages like beer produces a beneficial antioxidant effect in the body.
It’s not just alleviating menopause symptoms that we are looking at. Another study in 2009 found that women who drank beer regularly had stronger bones. It’s another testimony to the fact of how useful drinking the right beer can be.
Grab a Beer!
A brewery in New Hampshire has released a beer targeted at women going through menopause. The beer is known as “Libeeration”, and the first batch sold out within a week- that tell you how effective it must have been! So grab a chilled beer and relax when you are going through your menopause.
